What is a “Button Buck”? Well, it’s a young male deer, usually under a year old, that looks like he has “Buttons” on his head. He remains protected by law till his antlers grow to a length of 3 inches and then he is considered a “Spike”.
Request from my Traditional people got me thinking, so I decided to experiment and sent a Long Tom Hat to a Leather Smith to cut the brim and hand stitch it with a leather trim. Cutting and hand stitching leather is time consuming as well as costly, but I sent my first sample to the “Short Brim Expert” himself, Barry Wensel (Brothersofthebow.com), and I received a THUMBS UP!
